Photo of the Day - July Roundup

Broomfield, CO - Yes, I know, July was quite a while ago.  We've been busy (stay tuned for the August Roundup).  Anyway, July proved to be quite challenging for the photo of the day project.   With my muse, Keira, in school three days a week and me either working on the repair of the shoulder or the resurrection of the job search, photography inspiration was at an all time low.  Luckily, there was John's Desolation Backpacking Trip / Peace Corps Mini Reunion and a family trip to Yosemite National Park to distract me from the monotony.

July also brought about the death of my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, with which most of these photos were taken to date.  It took a swim with me in Tenaya Lake when two feet of water suddenly turned into four.  I have since replaced it with a new S4 and hope there might be some improvement in the photos.

Here are the photos from July:

Keira Photos 2012 Roundup - Part 4 - Our Summer Road Trip

Santa Clara, CA - Last summer at the end of July Keira, Suwei and I took off for a summer road trip to Colorado. Although Suwei had to eventually return for work, Keira and I stayed out in Colorado for a few more weeks to do a little work on the ski condo and visit with Suwei's parents. At the end of August, with the grandparents in tow, we took a very northerly roundabout route to Portland, Oregon to meet up with Suwei again. From there, we all did a mini tour of North Western Washington and Seattle with a little backpacking in Olympic National Park. During that time I took tons and tons of photos. And as usual I just haven't been able to find the time to organize and process them.

Back in December however, I did manage to dig out of the pile, a whole bunch of photos for our yearly Keira photobook. So, without further ado, here is part 4 of our 2012 Keira Photo Roundup, which can serve to be a mini version of the summer road trip post I would have like to have done.

California to Colorado

Suwei and I have made quite a habit of driving out to Colorado (we are actually leaving again in two weeks). For this trip (Summer 2012), we headed out via Yosemite National Park and camped out first night near Crowley Hot Springs close to Mammoth Lakes, CA. Day two we continued  along HWY 120 through Benton Hot Springs all the way to HWY 6.  We then followed Hwy 6 across Nevada and camped at one of the best kept campgrounds we'd ever seen, in Cathedral Gorge State Park near Panaca, NV.  Day 3 we continued along Hwy 6, which joined up with Hwy 50, which joined up with Hwy 70.  We camped that night in the Green River State Recreation Area in Green River, Utah.  Day 4 we finished our trip with one last push to Broomfield, CO.

Our time in Colorado was spent visiting Suwei's parents, seeing old friends, working on improvements to our place in Keystone, and doing a little mountain biking.

Exploring the Northwest

On August 16, 2012 I loaded up the truck (Really loaded up the truck! Two roof top boxes and we were still stuffed to the gills) and headed north towards Wyoming with my daughter and my wife's parents in tow for a two week tour in the Northwest. The four of us visited quite a few parks in South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Alberta, Idaho, and Washington before finally ending up in Portland, Oregon where we took on yet another passenger and more stuff.  With Suwei back on board we all headed north to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and up the Washington coast.  We finished up the trip with a three day backpacking trip in Olympic National Park (yet another post I plan on getting to eventually) and a day in Seattle.
